Buford O’Neal Furrow Jr. (Los Angeles Jewish Community Center shooting, 1999) – shot and killed five people in a Jewish day care in Granada Hills, California on August 10, 1999. Furrow later gunned down a mailman, killing him with nine bullets. Plagued with suicidal and homicidal thoughts, Furrow expressed desires to hurt others and himself. He showed up inebriated at a psychiatric hospital outside Seattle in 1998 where he was confronted by police. After slashing his arms with a knife, Furrow snapped, pulling a knife on a staff member, leading him to be incarcerated for assault. Despite his violent fantasies, Furrow was released on parole in 1998. One year later he went on a shooting spree.
