Laurie Wasserman Dann (The Laurie Dann Spree 1988) – set fire to the house where she worked as a baby sitter before traveling to Hubbard Woods Elementary School in Winnetka, Illinois, shooting six children, killing one and wounding a 20-year old man in a nearby house in which she barricaded herself in before committing suicide on May 20, 1988. Dann, 30, was also accused of trying to poison two fraternity houses at Northwestern University in Evanston after delivering marshmallow and rice cereal snacks laced with arsenic, causing several people to fall ill.

Having a history of mental illness, Dann was prescribed an experimental drug called clomipramine, which was used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. The last psychiatrist to treat Dann increased her dosage of the drug, as well as prescribed her the anti-psychotropic drug lithium.
