Cory Baadsgaard (Wahluke High School shooting, 2001) – took a high powered rifle into his third-period English class at Wahluke High School in Mattawa, Washington, herding his classmates and teacher into a corner and holding them hostage for 45 minutes on April 10, 2001. Fortunately, no one was injured as the school’s principal was able to convince Baadsgaard to give up his gun. The 16-year-old had recently switched to the new antidepressant Effexor, amping up his dosage from 40 milligrams to 300. Baadsgaard, who insists he has no memory of the event, spent 14 months in a juvenile detention center where he wrote letters of apology to those involved claiming he never wished to hurt anyone.
Effexor’s maker, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, warned doctors that clinical trials showed children taking the drug had increased hostility and suicidal tendencies. http://articles.latimes.com/2004/mar/21/nation/na-violent21
