Ata-se Giffa (Fort Hood shooting, 2015) – shot dead two neighbors after his wife fled to their house for help. Giffa, 30, dragged his wife Dawn, who was studying to be a pharmacy technician, back to his home, killing her and then himself on February 22, 2015. Another person in the neighbor’s home was seriously injured. Giffa was an automated logistics specialist assigned to the 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Hood since January 2014. The violent attack was the second murder-suicide by a Fort Hood soldier in 2015. While his mental state and prescription drug use, if any, remain unclear, it’s important to note that American soldiers (both active and retired) are more medicated than they’ve ever been before.
*In 2010, roughly 20 percent of service members were taking medications the military considered “high risk,” including anti-psychotics.
